Once a well has been plugged and abandoned and associated assets connected have no alternative use, infrastructure must also be abandoned and depending on developments in legislation either completely removed or otherwise made safe.
There are many similarities between the installation of an asset and its removal. It requires the same activities to be performed, however, with the additional challenge that parameters have changed compared to the moment of installation. Furthermore, the associated costs are considerable which in today’s climate does pose an additional strain on the operator’s financial position.
With a pragmatic hands-on approach and experience, handling the potential risks resulting from the many uncertainties associated with pipeline abandonment and decommissioning can be controlled.
